Lábod
Lábod, Somogy megye - Hungary

The name of the village is mentioned by old writtings at the first time in 1231. At that time it was the estate of the son of Bodor I. of Tibold clan. The chronicle remembers it as the centre of the huge domain, and it writes about that László IV. camped here, when he arrived to beat down the rebellious nobles of Somogy. In 1327 it was part of the estate of Queen of Segesd, more over it was given as wedding-present to László, the son of King Róbert Károly. In 1395 Dénes Marczali got it as estate of the king, 20 years later Lábod had already agricultural privileges. At that time its church was built for the respect of Saint Lukács. In the 16. century András Báthori, then Ferenc Nádasdy was the landowner, and it was the second largest settlement with its 96 houses. The village was destroyed by the Turks, its inhabitants later settled down a little further. In the years of 1600 it was registered as the part of Szentgyörgy Castle, later it became the estate of György Széchenyi, the archbishop of Kalocsa. The condition of its Calvinist church worsened so much, that a new church should have been built, for which an agreement of the Queen was won. The Roman Catholic believers started to built their church in 1809, in which there was a big role of the landowner Earl Pál Széchenyi.
