Béla Szakcsi Lakatos has demonstrated uniqueness as an artist on a number of occasions, to the eternal gratitude of Palace of Arts audiences. He has played his own solo compositions (Mystic Dreams), performed classical works with a symphony orchestra (Mozart: Piano Concerto in D major “Coronation”), and starred alongside young promising talents in the Jazz Showcase 2008 series. He is celebrating his sixty fifth birthday in the company of great American stars, proving in just what high esteem he is held by the greats of world jazz.
Szakcsi is a performer, composer and band leader, plus a Kossuth Prize winner. In 2007, he revived one of the legendary bands of Hungarian jazz history, the Hungarian Jazz Quartet, to mark its twentieth birthday, and they not only performed again but released a new album Last Time Together. We can’t reveal now whether he will be playing pieces from this album with the world stars gathered this evening. What we do know is that they will be playing the most modern jazz trends, as represented by his partners.
